New words for the dictionary - 15th September 2025

6,000 extra words are in the new Cambridge Dictionary. Many of these words are popular on social media.

One new word is 'skibidi'. It comes from a YouTube animation. The name of the videos is Skibidi Toilet.

'Skibidi' means 'cool' or 'bad'. It can also mean nothing. For example, "What the skibidi are you doing⁇"

Colin McIntosh works for Cambridge Dictionary. He thinks that the internet's changing English. It's interesting to see.

But writer Lee Escobeda doesn't like these changes. He wants words with real meanings.

When does Cambridge Dictionary add new words? When it thinks that they'll stay in use. Two more examples are 'tradwife' and 'delulu'.

Tradwife means a stay-at-home wife with children. Tradwives often write about this on social media. A 'delulu' person chooses to believe untrue things.

Many TikTok users searched "delulu is the solulu". It's about using your thoughts to change your life.

Are dictionaries going delulu?
