Good news for thousands - 27th October 2025
There's some good news for people with Huntington's disease. This horrible disease stops people walking and talking. People get memory problems. And they die young.
The disease starts with a DNA problem. A parent with Huntington's can give it to their child. The child has a 50 percent chance of getting it.
The DNA for people with Huntington's is different. Scientists learned about this in 1993. But there was no cure then.
Now, it's different. Scientists from London worked with the company 'uniQure'. They helped find a solution.
29 people tried a new therapy. Those people had Huntington's disease. They had a type of gene therapy. They spent 12 to18 hours in hospital. Doctors worked on their brains.
And it worked. The results were fantastic. The therapy didn't stop Huntington's. But it slowed it down by 75 percent.
It's difficult to give this therapy. And it's expensive too. But scientists hope this is the beginning.
